eurekaSydney
An Australia guided by the spirit of the Eureka Tradition as symbolised by the diggers' flag and oath:
" We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other and fight to defend our rights and liberties"
Defend Democracy Dinner 7 December 2007
eurekaSydney's vision statement is simply this:
An Australia guided by the spirit of the Eureka Tradition as symbolised by the diggers' flag and oath: "We swear by the Southern Cross to stand truly by each other and fight to defend our rights and liberties"
Today the call to defend our rights and liberties is as strong as it was 153 years ago on the goldfields of Ballarat.
The following organisations are represented on the committee
Sydney Trade Union Choir
Sydney Branch of the Australian
Society for the Study of Labour History
New TheatreSupported by The Search Foundation
The committee for eureka150 Sydney was formed in the middle of 2004 to organise a Sydney celbration of the 150th anniversary of Eureka and the famous Eureka Flag - December 3rd 2004 - at the Sydney Writers' Centre. Photographs of the Sydney 2004 Celebration
It was a successful day of talks by historians, songs and poetry, and reminiscences read from the diaries of eyewitnesses.
In March of 2005 the committee was expanded and renamed eurekaSydney in order to
- mark the anniversary of the Eureka Stockade each year in Sydney
- make the facts of the event and its aftermath better known in NSW
- expand the acceptance of the Eureka Flag beyond sectional interest
